When it comes to makeup, everyone has their favorite combo—whether that be a four-step lip routine or your signature formula for bold brows. But if there’s one category that’s often overlooked, it’s base makeup. Foundation and concealer are notoriously hard to shop for, and with minimal, no-makeup beauty looks trending, some people (including yours truly) prefer to skip the two altogether.
That said, you can’t blame me for being a bit skeptical going into my review of the KULFI BEAUTY Main Match Crease-Proof Long-Wear Hydrating Concealer. Its liquid formula promises medium coverage and long-wearing results; two claims I knew would be put to the test by my puffy under-eye bags and overall redness. But after I checked the ingredients—which include saffron-flower extract to soothe inflammation, amla-fruit extract to brighten, and rosehip extract to hydrate the skin—I was instantly curious if this could change my wary opinion on concealer.
The Main Match Concealer promises everything you would want in a concealer: a crease-proof, hydrating formula with a radiant finish and medium, buildable coverage. It claims to cover dark circles, hyperpigmentation, redness, and blemishes—and as someone who struggles with all of the above, I was more than ready to put this concealer to the test.
As for what makes this product stand out from the rest, the KULFI BEAUTY formula claims to be “self-setting,” meaning an added layer of powder isn’t necessary to keep its coverage in place. With acne-prone skin and sensitive under eyes, being able to skip out on another product excited me most, especially since applying concealer plus a powder is usually a recipe for cakey, dry makeup.
Right now, the KULFI BEAUTY formula is currently available in 12 different shades, but the brand has confirmed it’s planning to add more. When it came to picking a shade, I swatched a few on the inside of my wrist and ultimately went with Bad Badaam, a very light hue with neutral pink undertones. The color is a few shades lighter than my usual skin tone (especially now that it’s winter), but to my pleasant surprise, the hue practically melted into my skin.
I first tested this concealer after prepping my face with a hydrating cleanser and moisturizer. (This Renewing Cleansing Cream from MURAD is one of my favorite products for sensitive skin.) I added a few dots of concealer underneath the inner corner of my eye, as well as the outer corner, and let the formula sit for a few seconds to settle into my skin. After that, I warmed up my hands and tapped the concealer into my skin with my fingers, using a concealer brush to blend in any extra product.
The first thing I noticed—particularly as someone who doesn’t often wear concealer—is that the formula blended out seamlessly, giving me a skin-like finish. While my dark circles and acne were covered up by this pigmented concealer, it didn’t feel heavy, and its lightweight formula didn’t cake up at all.
The natural finish of this concealer wasn’t too drying on my skin, making it comfortable to wear for hours. And despite a windy grocery run and a coffee date with friends, the formula didn’t crease much in my eight hours of wear, only adding a wrinkle underneath my left eye (something I expect with any tinted under-eye product). I didn’t need to reapply, and I practically forgot I was wearing concealer throughout the day.
This concealer delivers on its name, providing a true color match with medium coverage. Its formula fits effortlessly into my no-makeup makeup routine, but it’s also buildable if I want to use it for a full face of glam. Safe to say, I’ve converted to using concealer, so long as it’s this one.
