In the last few months of every year, we find ourselves looking forward to the trends of the new year. From what everyone will be wearing to the makeup looks everyone will be attempting, and even how everyone will be styling their hair—we’re researching it all. Nails are a big category that is seeing some exciting new trends pop up, thanks to celebrity nail artists around the world and, of course, TikTok. So if you’re someone who gets your nails done often, take note of these eight nail trends of 2026. Even if you don’t get your nails done regularly, there’s a nail look on here worth trying to kick off the new year. Scroll below for the biggest nail art trends we’re excited to see everywhere in 2026!

It's about glam time you treated yourself.
Anastasiia Istomina is a professional nail artist based in Moscow, Russia. She specializes in translating individual style into wearable art for the nails.
With the rise of clean girl aesthetics and no-makeup makeup, we’ve seen a lean toward more minimalism in the beauty space. Professional nail artist Anastasiia Istomina shares that this trend is extending into the nail art space, with minimalist manis poised to be one of the biggest trends of 2026. For those who prefer a simple approach, stick with this trend.
To achieve this, look at home or at the nail salon, opt for one all-over nail polish color. It shouldn’t be a bold nail color either, but rather something very subtle. Think Hailey Bieber’s signature glazed donut nails done by OPI Global Ambassador Zola Ganzorigt; while they have a dazzle of shimmer, they’re still minimal in their vibe and ooze quiet luxury.
In line with the minimalism Istomina predicts we’ll see everywhere, she says “natural nails” will be a big trend this year. And we’re already seeing that by way of the naked manicure trend, as seen on celebrities and social media. The trend calls for neutral, sheer nails and emphasizes nail care above all else—which is unsurprising, given the emphasis on skincare over the past few years. You don’t even necessarily need to wear nail polish to pull off this trend. You can ditch the gel polish for a clear or milky white top coat that delivers nail care benefits. Oh, and don’t forget a cuticle oil like the LE MINI MACARON Rosé Kiss - Nail & Cuticle Oil to provide hydration for dry and rough cuticles and nails.
Abstract art isn’t just for museums anymore; it’s also great inspo for nail designs, according to Istomina. “There will be a lean toward abstractism,” she says of a huge nail art trend for 2026. We’re talking eye-catching designs that turn your nails into their very own work of art. While you may be tempted to DIY this look, and absolutely can, seeing a manicurist may allow you to really go bold and creative with this design. They may even have some additional abstract nail ideas to try that you haven’t seen on social media or thought of yourself.
“I believe one of the main trends for 2026 will be metal,” Istomina tells us. While metallic nail art is nothing new, it has seen a rise in popularity as of late. We’re not just seeing gold and silver manis, but also chrome accents and metallic nail accessories that turn your fingertips into a heavy metal dream.
The fun thing about this trend is that there are so many different directions you can take it. You can keep it as simple as wearing a metallic nail polish or opting for classic chrome nails, or you can go bold with a different metallic design on each nail. Let your mind wander as you decide on your high-shine design.
Playing with texture will be a major nail art trend, according to Istomina. She predicts 3D embellishments, velvet textures, along with gem and rhinestone touches, will be on everyone’s nails. After all, they’re a fun way to jazz up any gel manicure with wearable art.
There are numerous ways to sport this trend, and no shortage of design inspo out there. Think nails that look pierced with jewels or dangling metal. 3D chrome nails are also an incredibly popular way to try this nail art trend. Some have taken inspo from everyday household items like quilts, glassware, and even the tiles in their home.
Animal print nails never go away, and this next year is more than proof. Lions and tigers and bears—oh my! But it’s more than that, we’re seeing cows, snakes, and tortoiseshell prints all inspire salon trips. Nail art is going full party animal mode in 2026, at least according to Istomina, who predicts we’ll see some fun takes on the animal print trend.
Use your fave animal as inspo for your next trip to the nail salon. Bring plenty of reference photos, too. You can also achieve some of these looks with press-on nails or nail strips at home.
Good news, the cat-eye nail trend isn’t going anywhere. This trend continues to be on everyone’s nails and will see a surge in popularity next year, says Istomina. Dare to have fun with wild takes on the new nail obsession.
If you don’t feel like going into the salon, you can create this look yourself using magnetic nail polish. Grab a magnet to make the signature cat-eye effect however you like.
The classic French mani is getting an upgrade in 2026. Istomina says “unusual French manicures” are a growing trend, and one she predicts we will see more of in 2026. We’ve already seen unique nail shapes for French tips, including the duck nails, but we’ll be seeing more interesting designs this year. Creamy white won’t be the only go-to color for French nails; we’ll see pastels, burgundies, reds, and hues of all shades line the tips of nails around the world. The nice thing about this trend is that there are loads of press-on nails available with all sorts of creative French mani designs.
Next year’s nail trends are giving range. From the minimalist takes on natural nails and neutral nail polish tones to the maximalist designs featuring textures and playful designs, there’s something for everyone on 2026’s list of nail trends.
However you’d like to rock them is up to you, which makes them all the more fun. Plus, you can swap between them throughout the year, giving each a chance to shine.
Don’t forget to take these trends to the next level and let them inspire your makeup, too. The IPSY Shop has everything you need to create unique makeup looks inspired by next year’s biggest mani trends.
